Barcelona Early Music Festival was established in 1977 at the Caxia Forum with the ambition of introducing early music to a younger generation. Early music stands for European classical music originating from the Renaissance period and the 1700s and 1800s.The Early Music Festival hosts both complementary and fee-paying events such as family concerts, lectures and master classes with some of the great classical music performers.

Unlike many other festivals its features songs and compositions from unknown performers across Spain. Every year, hundreds of young people from Spain and aboard debut at the Festival. The festival attendees has increased tripled on a yearly basis, making the Early Music festival one of the big emerging and exciting festivals of Barcelona City.
